In this 2nd installment of the Harry Potter series, trouble is going on at Hogwarts. There is someone or something attempting to kill students. None have died but have been petrified. Harry finds out that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened so he and Ron go into the chamber to see if they can stop whatever is killing everything. In this book, Harry seems to always put matters into his own hands and is extremely loyal to his friends.
Harry always puts matters into his own hands, even if it involves breaking Hogwarts rules. For example, he sneaked out one night (p.260) with Ron to talk to Hagrid about the Chamber of Secrets. Harry also puts himself at risk. Harry was warned by a house elf named Dobby that bad things are going to happen at Hogwarts and that Harry should not go (p.16). Even after the entrance to the Hogwarts express is blocked(p.68), Harry and Ron take a flying car to Hogwarts which is completely against the rules. Harry didn’t think that a blocked entrance was a 2nd warning that he shouldn’t come to Hogwarts.
Harry is extremely loyal to his friends too, even if it means putting himself in danger. For example, Harry goes into the Chamber of Secrets (p.305) to try to save Hogwarts and Ron’s sister Ginny. He hardly even knew Ginny but decided to save her, thinking out for Ron and his family. Harry had to have so much courage to go down into the chamber with the fate of his friends and the future of Hogwarts on the table. At the very end of the book, Harry stays caring and helps Dobby escape being a house elf slave (P.338). Dobby becomes free and protects Harry from an angry Lucius Malfoy.
This shows Harry cares for and respects everyone.
Harry put himself at risk and was loyal to friends throughout the book. Without these characteristics, there might have been no Hogwarts anymore. Harry’s friend first mentality could come back to hurt him in later books. He needs to realize his importance in the fight against Voldemort, and also realize that he can’t save everyone.
Great post,
ReplyDeleteI really liked your summary of the book. You described it very well! I liked how you included your writing of the pages that you got your quotes and text evidence from. I liked how you used facts about Harry Potter but also included your thoughts about the book. Very good post.
Great post. I remember from reading this book myself that Harry always puts his friends first. I like how you gave a lot of supporting evidence to support your thesis. I like how you predicted what might happen in the next books in your conclusion.
